| About The Veeders® Steel Heavy Duty Mailbox
These custom roadside mailboxes have a beautiful appearance, super strength, and are hand crafted like none other. The design of the Veeders Mailbox is pleasing to the eye. It is not garish or gaudy, and it is built with vandal resistant qualities.
About the Modern Day Veeders Stainless Steel Heavy Duty Mailboxes
The Veeders Mailbox is made of VERY thick carbon steel to deal with the reality of vandalism. All seams are welded full length to maximize strength and are invisible. The rounded top sheds water. The hinge on the door is hidden and will not shear off under load. The hinge, the handle and all fasteners are stainless steel. Spring loaded bearing makes for more substantial door closure than magnets or door clips. Everything about this mailbox has a satisfying durability to last as long as the house it serves.
About the Finish
The benefits of carbon steel in a painted mailbox, the epoxy primer and aliphatic polyurethane finish coating are the best paint money can buy. The surface of each Veeders Mailbox will withstand the elements with ease and will not rust. It resists scratching and everyday where and tear and look brand new longer than most mailboxes on the market. Available in four colors – Black, White, Red and Green.
About the Installation
The Veeders Mailbox should be installed on a 6-foot, 6" square wood post. The brackets welded to the bottom of every Veeders Mailbox are exactly 5 1/2 inches apart. It might be necessary to use a carpenter's plane or rasp to remove wood from the post so the brackets extend their full length on two sides of the post. Special screws are provided to make a secure connection. If the post is set 2-feet in compacted dirt, sand, or gravel it will be rigid enough to withstand typical vandalism, but if it were held in place by concrete – it could take much more.
About the Sizes
The Veeders mailboxes are available in two sizes. The smaller size is a generous 73/4" wide, 10" high, and 21" long and will handle everyday mail. The larger mailbox is one of the largest rural mailboxes we carry at 103/4" wide, 13" high, and 231/2" long and holds newspapers, magazines, packages, large envelopes with ease.

A Mailbox with a History
Every once in a while we run into a mailbox with a story. The Veeders mailbox is one of the most interesting. In 1979, at the behest of a neighbor whose mailbox was run over by juveniles being chased by the police, a journalist and "shade tree mechanic" in Cincinnati , designed a mailbox that redefines the term "sturdy". The result – an MIG-welded, l0-gauge (1/8-inch) thick steel mailbox was formed around a telephone pole that would take most abuse short of a stick of dynamite.
