About Greg Hentzi Designs Gregory Hentzi’s artwork is a mix of mother nature and hand-embossed lustrous copper. Each beautiful 3-dimensional design is a scene of animals in motion, a serene landscape or simply a close up of wheat and dragonflies. Available in post mounts or wall mounts, Greg’s work is inspired by nature’s beauty and we are pleased to offer our customers a chance to bring his gorgeous artwork home. About the Mailbox Construction Each exclusive solid copper design is hand drawn (embossed) with applied hints of color, and most importantly, dated and signed by Greg. There are many design and mailbox style combinations to choose from. Each mailbox (and flag for the post mounts) is made from mild steel that is powder-coated in gloss black. The locking wall mount versions include a brushed stainless steel outer lid and two keys to access your mail. Some wall mounts also come with a hanger for outgoing mail or newspapers. About the Copper Finish After Greg finishes his designs, they are carefully coated with a clear lacquer protecting the copper from the natural aging process. To keep your Greg Hentzi mailbox bright add additional coats of clear lacquer every six months or so (available in spray cans at any hardware or auto-parts store). Should you choose to allow your mailbox to age naturally, you will see your design darken to a natural patina. Please note a green patina appears only after many, many years. About the Locking Option The Hentzi Mailbox can be upgraded with a locking option. The opening size on the mail slot is 2”H x 10”W x 19”D which then secures your mail in a locked compartment. The outgoing mail holder has a 1”H x 10” W x 19” long space. Equipped with 2 keys, this mailbox will protect its contents until you retrieve them. My review of this mailbox post may seem a bit picky, but consider that this is a premium post and carried a premium price, so the standard I judge it against is very high. This post is very high quality, made of aluminum that will not rust with a baked on enamel finish. I looked great in pictures, and it looks great installed. It is made to pair with the Coronado mailbox which is also extremely high quality. The post comes in four parts; the main post which is just a square tube, but is predrilled to accept the mailbox arm. First you install this tube with a concrete base, making sure it get it good and plumb. Care needs to be taken to measure, measure, and measure again to get the post in the proper depth and distance from the curb. The predrilled holes means you are stuck with wherever you set the post, no last minute adjustment like you may have on a wooden post. I set mine 42" above the street and 6" back from the curb to make sure it didn't get accidentally bumped. The second piece is the newel top which is very heavy and made of cast aluminum wit baked on paint. The third and fourth pieces form the mailbox arm; the main arm goes on first, it is very heavy gauge steel, and the other piece goes underneath to act as a cover after the mailbox is bolted down. It is also heavy gauge metal. The arm is notched in the back to accommodate the mailbox better, very nice. Overall excellent quality, BUT then I noticed the hardware which comes in a separate box. These are just simple bolts of the right length, the size and strength is good, but they were unfinished. So the standard silver bolt heads were going to be very visible against the black mailbox post. So I spray painted the heads before installing, I'm surprised at this cost they didn't come color matched. Then the bolts supplied to fasten the mailbox down were standard hex head bolts, leaving four very large bolt heads inside the mailbox. I would have expected round head bolts to be supplied for this purpose as they were for the rear supports, again I was disappointed in the hardware. Now that the box is up I love it, my neighbors have all noticed it. One installation tip; be careful not to over tighten the arm to the main post, the post is aluminum which is fairly soft and will bend if over tightened. I used a very small 1/4 ratchet to install mine and even though I went easy on it I did dimple the back of the post a little bit.
