The Good Directions Castle Style Nottingham Cupolas
Good Directions, the #1 source of high-quality, exquisitely designed, functional copper accessories for home and garden, introduces the Nottingham Cupolas to our customers. A departure from the traditional, these ornamental vinyl cupolas feature a Hip Style Copper Roof, an Arched Top Louvered Mid-Section, and a Smooth Vinyl Base. Although they can be used for ventilation, these cupolas are generally used for decorative purposes and add a charming and distinctive architectural accent atop your roof. The Hip Style roof is designed to accent homes with traditional roof lines and general straight line architecture.
The Good Directions Castle Style Nottingham Cupolas: About the Roof
The Copper Roof of the Nottingham Cupola is both visually appealing and structurally sound. The roof is made from 16-ounce, 24-gauge unfinished copper, so the roof will patina beautifully over time. Supporting the copper roof, is a wooden base treated to withstand moisture, rotting, and insect damage.
The Good Directions Castle Style Nottingham Cupolas: About the Mid-Section
The mid-section of the Nottingham vinyl cupolas features an Arched Top Louvered ventilation system. The horizontal and vertical slats are angled to admit light and air, but keep out rain and direct sunshine. The mid-section is constructed of high quality PVC, which is more durable and rugged than natural wood, and virtually maintenance-free. As a bonus, the vinyl, if treated with vinyl primer first, can be painted to match the exterior of your home.
The Good Directions Castle Style Nottingham Cupolas: About the Base
The Smooth Vinyl Base of the Nottingham Cupola offers simplicity and functionality. The base is designed to accept a 12/12 pitch (12” rise per foot). However if the roof pitch is steeper than a 12/12 pitch, you will need to order the available extension base. The product includes all instructions and hardware needed for easy installation.
The Good Directions Castle Style Nottingham Cupolas: Attaching a Weathervane or Finial
The Nottingham Cupola is weathervane or finial ready. The top of the cupola has a hole, which can accept up to a 1” weathervane or finial post. Inside the roof, a bracket attaches the post to the cupola for additional fortification. Due to the height to width ratio of all castle cupolas, we do recommend purchasing an extension post for your weathervane.
The Good Directions Castle Style Nottingham Cupolas: What Size is Right for Your Home
When selecting the right size Cupola for your home or business, there is a good rule of thumb to follow; use 1.5 inches of cupola for every foot of unbroken roofline. For example, if a roof section measures 24 feet, the minimum cupola size should be approximately 36 inches square. For a more dramatic effect, or if a cupola larger than 60 inches square is needed, consider using two cupolas on the roofline. Should you choose to use two cupolas, the rule of thumb changes to one (1) inch of cupola for every foot of unbroken roofline. For example, if a roof section measures 24 feet, the minimum size of each cupola should be approximately 24 inches square. These beautiful Nottingham Cupolas come in the following sizes:
- 24” Sq x 53” H
- 28” Sq x 63” H
- 32” Sq x 71” H
- 38” Sq x 85” H
- 44” Sq x 98” H
