The ecco E1 is a stylish stainless steel wall mailbox that is designed for a simple and clean look. The round front and pristine details give it a light and airy feel. Made from heavy duty stainless steel, the ecco E1 features a sloped lid with a label holder, a leather US Mail label and see-through viewing of contents inside. A sand-blasted brushed steel look makes the ecco E1 mailboxes a natural compliment to your entryway with contemporary style. About the Materials The ecco E1 mailboxes are made from heavy duty steel resistant to dents and daily wear and tear. Stainless steel is a generic term for a family of low carbon alloy steels containing 10.5% or more chromium. The corrosion resistance and other useful properties of steel are enhanced by increased chromium content and the addition of other elements such as molybdenum, nickel and nitrogen. Stainless steel also has a self-healing property because of its specific chemical composition. A layer on the surface, only a few atoms thick, naturally forms and, with the assistance of oxygen from air or water, rebuilds itself when scratched. This is the reason why stainless steel does not require any coating or other corrosion protection to remain bright and shiny even after decades of use. It is also 100% RECYCLABLE. The US Mail label is made from leather. It will age and darken like a baseball glove over time. The ecco E1 mailboxes are recommended for use in a sheltered area away from direct sun and rain. About the Mailbox Design The E1 is ideal for limited space applications or low volume mail. Despite its slender form, the mailbox is tall enough to house folded magazines and large envelopes. Its shape is visually unobtrusive and does not take up a lot of space. The sloped lid creates a wide opening for easy mail retrieval. The ecco E1 features practical see through square openings for spotting incoming mail and a label holder on top of the lid is provided for the owner's name or house number. The leather label is attached with small removable rivets and is available with the imprint MAIL for use outside the USA. All hardware included. My review of this mailbox post may seem a bit picky, but consider that this is a premium post and carried a premium price, so the standard I judge it against is very high. This post is very high quality, made of aluminum that will not rust with a baked on enamel finish. I looked great in pictures, and it looks great installed. It is made to pair with the Coronado mailbox which is also extremely high quality. The post comes in four parts; the main post which is just a square tube, but is predrilled to accept the mailbox arm. First you install this tube with a concrete base, making sure it get it good and plumb. Care needs to be taken to measure, measure, and measure again to get the post in the proper depth and distance from the curb. The predrilled holes means you are stuck with wherever you set the post, no last minute adjustment like you may have on a wooden post. I set mine 42" above the street and 6" back from the curb to make sure it didn't get accidentally bumped. The second piece is the newel top which is very heavy and made of cast aluminum wit baked on paint. The third and fourth pieces form the mailbox arm; the main arm goes on first, it is very heavy gauge steel, and the other piece goes underneath to act as a cover after the mailbox is bolted down. It is also heavy gauge metal. The arm is notched in the back to accommodate the mailbox better, very nice. Overall excellent quality, BUT then I noticed the hardware which comes in a separate box. These are just simple bolts of the right length, the size and strength is good, but they were unfinished. So the standard silver bolt heads were going to be very visible against the black mailbox post. So I spray painted the heads before installing, I'm surprised at this cost they didn't come color matched. Then the bolts supplied to fasten the mailbox down were standard hex head bolts, leaving four very large bolt heads inside the mailbox. I would have expected round head bolts to be supplied for this purpose as they were for the rear supports, again I was disappointed in the hardware. Now that the box is up I love it, my neighbors have all noticed it. One installation tip; be careful not to over tighten the arm to the main post, the post is aluminum which is fairly soft and will bend if over tightened. I used a very small 1/4 ratchet to install mine and even though I went easy on it I did dimple the back of the post a little bit.
